Where do acne scars come from?
Scroll Down to watch..👇👇
Acne scars form when the inflammation associated with acne lesions causes irreparable damage to underlying skin tissue. The skin’s natural wound-healing process is activated in response to the inflammation, which involves new collagen production. Collagen is the most abundant skin protein. Collagen provides the skin with structural support and contributes to a firm, smooth skin texture. When too little collagen is produced during the natural wound-healing process, depressed or atrophic scars form. When too much collagen is produced, raised scars, either keloid or hypertrophic scars, form. Unlike normal hypertrophic scars, keloidal scar tissue continues to grow beyond the limits of the initial trauma after the skin has healed. Picking at or popping active pimples worsens inflammation, increasing the likelihood of acne scarring. It is easier to prevent acne scars than to treat them; however, they are treatable should they develop. It is always recommended to consult a board-certified dermatologist, like Dr. Green, who can work with you to eliminate your breakouts and prevent and treat acne scars best.
